WHO IS NEW PROMISE FARMS?

We are a family oriented boarding, breeding and training facility.  Started as just me and my kids riding our horses in endurance and driving our Appaloosas and Walkers for pleasure.

That doesn't really tell you much, does it?

We wanted some "human" company and thought

to take in one or two extra horses and their

owners.  We got a little carried away!

We started as a hobby in the early 80's and quickly grew into a training facility for driving horses.  We train the driver and the driven in a team spirit of partnership.  Never rushed, never pushed and never hurt.

Because there were no trainers around that

would train the horse and owner to drive safely

on the PA roads for pleasure purposes.  The local

driving clubs found out about us and we have

been busy ever since.

We are a small breeding operation.  Although Appaloosas are the passion of our existence, we have found a true joy for gaited horses of all breeds and have added Tennessee Walkers to our breeding list.

Standing any stallion would make the bravest head

spin - it is truly a challenge and a reward to have

TWO such fine horses in our barn.  They are used

for riding, driving, and lessons - this is the only

temperament that should be allowed on a stallion!

We operate like you would.  Quiet,  safely, and naturally.  Our stallions are turned out with their mares and foals.  Our mares work with students and family members routinely.  Foals are handled from birth until you take them home.  If they grow up with us, they are ponied on trail rides, clipped, hooves trimmed, and turned out 24/7 for good bone and muscle development.  Their minds are molded in a people oriented lifestyle and make the best kind of buddy to have.

We searched for young stock that were sensible

and sane and good boned for driving and

endurance work - they were hard to find so we

decided to grow our own!  Come see our foals!

We have been at this a long time!  Officially a business since 1988 - we've been educating people and horses since 1982. And Dodie has been doing it on her own, for herself, for longer than that!  (Can't tell you how long, you'll guess her age!)

I was recently asked how I manage to continue to have a smile and good humor when everything around me is such a whirlwind of change.  I live by six rules, nothing else matters:

  1. Serenity in the face of adversity

  2. Strength in the face of disaster

  3. Perseverance against hopelessness

  4. Humor in the face of insanity

  5. Honesty regardless of consequence

  6. Don't wear mascara, it runs when you cry
